ALG Connect Weather Alert: Severe Weather, Flash Flood Saga Continues

Severe Weather, Flash Flood Saga Continues From the Midwest into the Plains through Midweek

Severe thunderstorms and heavy rain will continue to pound the Plains and Midwest through Wednesday, spawning more tornadoes, damaging wind gusts, large hail and flash flooding. Parts of mid-Atlantic will also see bouts of severe weather through Wednesday. Monday continued a more than 10-day-long siege of severe weather and flooding in the Plains and Midwest. In total, more than 50 reports of tornadoes were tallied Monday and Monday night from Ohio and Indiana to Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota and Colorado. Some of the worst tornado damage occurred late Monday night near Dayton, Ohio.

Severe thunderstorms may be numerous Tuesday from parts of Iowa southwestward into Oklahoma. These storms will be capable of producing large hail, damaging wind gusts and tornadoes. Scattered severe storms are also possible in the lower Great Lakes and Mid-Atlantic States Tuesday afternoon and evening. Damaging wind gusts and hail are the primary threats, but a couple of tornadoes are also possible. The Corn Belt along with flood-plagued eastern Oklahoma and western Arkansas could pick up several more inches of rain through Wednesday night, quickly triggering additional flash flooding, given saturated ground. Most of the storm-weary Plains should finally get a break on Thursday, but a few severe thunderstorms are possible in parts of the Northeast.
