ALG Connect Weather Alert: Imelda Triggers Catastrophic Flooding in Texas

Imelda Triggers Catastrophic Flooding in Texas & More Rain Is Ahead; Over 30 Inches of Rain Prompts Rescues, Evacuations

Tropical Depression Imelda has dumped prolific amounts of rain in parts of eastern Texas, leading to catastrophic flooding and prompting evacuations and unfortunately, there is more heavy rain ahead. Flash flood emergencies are in effect for parts of Montgomery, Harris, Newton, Hardin, Jefferson, Jasper, Liberty, Chambers and San Jacinto Counties in southeastern Texas. This includes parts of the Houston area and Beaumont.

Parts of Brazoria, Galveston, Harris, Matagorda and Montgomery counties have picked up over 8 inches of rain from Imelda. Rain was also falling at the rate of up to 5 inches an hour early Wednesday morning in Matagorda County, where a flash flood warning was issued. In general, an additional 3 to 5 inches of rain is a good bet in parts of eastern Texas and western Louisiana through Friday.

We recognize the severe impact that current conditions are having on our customers and we are committed to restoring service levels as quickly as possible. As a result of these weather issues, the ALG Client Service Team will send daily updates as we monitor the progress and track job level impact.

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- The roof of a post office mail distribution facility collapsed amid severe weather in northeast Houston, according to the fire department.

It happened shortly before noon at the USPS facility located at 4600 Aldine Bender Rd.

Investigators say there were people inside the building at the time, but everyone was able to make it out. Three people were sent to the hospital with minor injuries, according to HFD.

In photos posted to the HFD's Twitter account, multiple cars are seen parked near the building, one of which was heavily damaged after a piece of the building fell on its top.
