ALG Connect Weather Alert: Tropical Storm Imelda Dumps More Than 40 Inches of Rain in Texas

Tropical Storm Imelda Dumps More Than 40 Inches of Rain in Texas, Triggering Catastrophic Flooding

Tropical Storm Imelda dumped prolific amounts of rain across parts of southeastern Texas in September 2019, leading to catastrophic flooding and prompting evacuations. Greens Bayou at US 59 measured 6.24 inches of rain in one hour midday Sept. 19. Conroe, Texas, measured 5.16 inches of rain in an hour earlier that same morning. The highest rainfall total from Imelda was 43.39 inches southwest of Beaumont in Jefferson County at North Fork Taylors Bayou.

A bridge on Interstate 10 in Texas was shut down indefinitely Friday morning after at least two runaway barges hit it overnight. The bridge crosses the San Jacinto River about 15 miles east of Houston. Several other portions of the interstate between Houston and the Louisiana state line, as well as multiple other roadways, remained closed Friday morning due to flooding, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.

We recognize the severe impact that current conditions are having on our customers and we are committed to restoring service levels as quickly as possible. As a result of these weather issues, the ALG Client Service Team will send daily updates as we monitor the progress and track job level impact.

Post office building roof collapses in northeast Houston

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- The roof of a post office mail distribution facility collapsed amid severe weather in northeast Houston, according to the fire department.

It happened shortly before noon at the USPS facility located at 4600 Aldine Bender Rd.

Investigators say there were people inside the building at the time, but everyone was able to make it out. Three people were sent to the hospital with minor injuries, according to HFD.

In photos posted to the HFD's Twitter account, multiple cars are seen parked near the building, one of which was heavily damaged after a piece of the building fell on its top.
