ALG Connect: Postal service works to restore service to Houston-area

Postal service works to restore service to Houston-area customers affected by Imelda

The U.S. Postal Service says it is working to restore service to Houston-area customers affected by the remnants of Tropical Storm Imelda.

Some operations have been disrupted since Thursday, when tropical depression Imelda brought heavy rains to the region. A roof collapsed at the North Houston mail processing facility, injuring three people.

The postal service said in a news release Monday that after an inspection by structural engineers, most processing operations resumed.

Officials stressed that customers not receiving their usual amount of mail "can be assured that all mail within our system is secured and safe at all times."

"We are processing all mail and packages as quickly as we can and any items customers are expecting will be delivered as soon as possible," the news release said. "We appreciate our customers' patience as we continue to work hard to resume normal postal operations in Houston and the surrounding area."

The agency said all post offices have resumed normal operations except those for:

* Porter Post Office, which have been moved to the New Caney Post Office, 20811 Highway 59, New Caney;

* Devers Post Office, which have been moved to the Liberty Post Office, 1515 Sam Houston St., Liberty;

* Hamshire and Stowell post offices, which have been moved to the Winnie Post Office, 324 Highway 124, Winnie;

* Mauriceville Post Office, which have been moved to the Evadale Post office, 225 FM 105, Evadale;

* Nome Post Office, which have been moved to the China Post Office, 305 N. Broadway St., China.
