Hurricane Sally Lashing Gulf Coast With Flooding Rain, Storm Surge and Damaging Winds After Making Landfall

Hurricane Sally has made landfall this morning with extreme flooding rainfall, a dangerous storm surge and damaging winds. Sally will also pose a threat of flooding rainfall farther inland across parts of the Southeast.
Bands of heavy rain and strong winds are affecting the northern Gulf Coast, particularly in parts of the Florida Panhandle and southern Alabama. A wind gust to 92 mph has been measured in Pensacola, Florida. Dauphin Island, Alabama, and Mobile, Alabama have seen wind gusts as high as 99 mph and 82 mph. A storm surge of over 5 feet has been recorded so far near Pensacola, Florida.
Significant flash flooding with flooded roads and homes has also occurred in numerous spots from southeast Alabama into the western Florida Panhandle. A flash flood emergency has been issued by the National Weather Service in northwestern Florida for southwestern Okaloosa County and southeastern Santa Rosa County. Doppler radar has estimated rainfall totals of 10 to 25 inches in this area so far.Sally's highest rainfall totals, locally up to 35 inches, are expected from extreme southeast Alabama into the western Florida Panhandle.

Hurricane Sally has made landfall, bringing extreme rain and wind to Southern Alabama, Northwest Florida and surrounding areas. There are multiple Post Office closures and postal facility disruptions as a result. As we monitor conditions in the region our top priority is the safety of customers and employees.
Alabama
All drop shipments and operations have been suspended until further notice for the following Plants:
Mobile Annex, 250 St. Joseph Street, 36601-2001
Mobile P&DC, 4538 Shipyard Rd., 36675-9998
Drop Shipment Hours: Suspended immediately until further notice.
Processing Plan: Mail currently in the facility will be processed and delivered, pending weather conditions.
Recommendations to Mailers: Mailers are requested to hold their drop shipments. Please reschedule FAST appointments.
Florida
Pensacola Florida Processing & Distribution Center (P&DC), 1400 West Jordan St., 32522 - All Drop Shipments and operations have been suspended due to Hurricane Sally. There is an embargo for all Priority Mail Express and live animals. Operations will resume at 7 a.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2020.
Processing Plan: Mail currently in the facility will be processed and delivered when operations resume.
Recommendations to Mailers: Mailers are requested to hold their drop shipments. Please reschedule FAST appointments.
Due to weather conditions, all delivery and retail operations in the 325 Digit ZIP Code have been suspended and expected to resume on Thursday, September 17th.
Louisiana
Due to the path of Hurricane Sally, all operations in the 700, 701, 703 & 704 3-Digit ZIP Codes will resume operations as normal effective immediately with the exception of the following offices that have mandatory evacuations.
