Winter Storm Oaklee Spreading Snow and Ice from the Plains to Midwest and Northeast

Since Wednesday morning, the storm has produced numerous reports of sleet and freezing rain, from as far south as central Texas to central and eastern Oklahoma, Arkansas, southern Missouri and parts of the Ohio Valley.

Travel Advisory Issued for New York City. Officials in New York City are advising residents to brace for potentially hazardous travel conditions, especially during the Friday morning commute, and to avoid driving if possible.

"With a potential wintry mix arriving in New York City Thursday night into Friday morning, New Yorkers should prepare for slippery road conditions, especially during the morning commute," NYC Emergency Management Commissioner Zach Iscol said in a news release. "We encourage all New Yorkers to use mass transit, allow for extra travel time, and exercise caution."

More than 700 salt spreaders are being deployed throughout the city.

More than 400 Crashes Reported in Missouri. The State Highway Patrol responded to 402 crashes from midnight Wednesday through about 4 p.m. Thursday. Those included 52 injuries but no fatalities. Trooper’s also responded to about 400 stranded motorists and 1,000 calls overall.

More Than 1,500 Flights Canceled

Flight cancellations piled up for a second consecutive day at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and nearby Love Field. DFW had more than 1,100 cancellations as of about 11 a.m. CST, according to airline tracker FlightAware.com. Love Field had just over 200. About 100 flights were called off at Austin-Bergstrom International and 80 at St. Louis Lambert.

Just like the storm, travel woes are moving east. As of 5 p.m. EST, more than 450 flights were already canceled for Friday at Boston Logan International Airport, according to FlightAware.com. Nearly 200 were canceled at Newark Liberty and 140 at LaGuardia. About 100 flights were canceled at Reagan National.
