Idalia Latest: More Than 250,000 Still Without Power in Florida, Georgia, and The Carolinas

Idalia remains a tropical storm and is swirling near the North Carolina coast Thursday morning where heavy rain is falling and has prompted flash flood warnings.
Residents in several communities along Florida's Gulf Coast and inland face a long cleanup, as damage assessments and recovery from Idalia get underway. The storm flooded homes and businesses, forced evacuations across dozens of cities and towns, shut down hundreds of schools and left hundreds of thousands of people without electricity. The impacts were felt from Southwest Florida to North Carolina.
More than 250,000 homes and businesses remained in the dark Thursday morning as residents began to assess the damage from Hurricane Idalia from the Florida coast up through the Carolinas.
With the floodwaters receding along Florida's Big Bend, authorities will complete the process of searching damaged areas. As of Thursday morning, one death had been directly blamed on the storm.
As Idalia pushed up the coast, flooding was reported in several North Carolina towns. South of Wilmington, the town of Southport had serious flooding on numerous roads, which made travel impossible.
Idalia also downed trees and power lines across parts of North Carolina, where Gov. Roy Cooper had previously declared a state of emergency to better respond to the impacts of the storm.
We recognize the severe impact that current conditions are having on our customers, and we are committed to restoring service levels as quickly as possible.
