Nor'easter bringing flooding, strong winds from NC to New England

A powerful nor'easter moving up the East Coast will bring coastal flooding, high surf, strong winds and heavy rain from North Carolina through New England over the weekend, with major impacts expected in the Boston and New York City areas.

The nor'easter is expected to cause coastal flooding, high surf, wind and rain from North Carolina and the Virginia Tidewater to the Jersey Shore and New England through the weekend.

Gusts are topping 40mph along the coast from southern Massachusetts to the Virginia Tidewater, with some gusts over 50mph possible in coastal and southeast New England and eastern Long Island.

Minor to moderate coastal flooding was reported on Wednesday morning and evening high tides from the Jersey Shore to southeast Virginia, including downtown Norfolk, Smithfield and Suffolk, Virginia.

Through Thursday, coastal flooding is forecasted at high tide with gusty winds from Massachusetts to the northern Outer Banks of North Carolina.

Heavy rain is expected Friday through the weekend, especially in coastal New England, potentially causing flash flooding in urban areas such as the Boston metro and eastern Long Island.
