Nor'easter begins onslaught with pounding waves, intense winds

A powerful nor'easter is moving up the East Coast, bringing coastal flooding, high surf, heavy rain, and strong winds from North Carolina to New England through the weekend, with especially significant impacts expected in the northern Outer Banks, southern New Jersey, Boston, and New York City.

Friday: Winds may become a bit stronger by evening from southeast New England to the Delmarva Peninsula. Rain spreads to the coast from southeast New England to New Jersey. Additional coastal flooding is expected with the evening high tide.

Saturday: Locally heavy rain and strong winds are possible over much of coastal, southern New England. Rain will also fall as far west as the Delaware Valley and Delmarva Peninsula, including New York City. High tide coastal flooding from New England to at least parts of the mid-Atlantic coast will occur again in the morning and evening.

Sunday: Nor'easter weakens, but rain showers and some gusty winds could linger over much of the mid-Atlantic and New England, including Boston and New York City. Some coastal flooding may linger during high tides in a few spots.

Monday: The weakened nor'easter won't make too much progress, with rain showers and some gusty winds lingering over New England, Long Island and the Hudson Valley, including New York City.
